Osas 7th April 2016

As far back as my secondary school days, people mostly wondered why with an obvious Edo name, I had deep Yoruba sayings, proverbs and comebacks for every conversation. I told them I had the coolest gramma that always had witty, intelligent and humorous sarcastic comments on every situation My best part of growing up was the days my mom would say, “we are going to pike today”. My face immediately lights up when I see gramma. “Kaabo omo ajokuta ma momi”(insert Yoruba ami/mark) she would say, even though we might fight few hours later. She would always buy me my favorite sea food as she knew that was the way to my heart. Grandma had a vendor for everything: Oni Senegal bread, ologi, Eleja Sawa, Ede,Ata, Efor…u name it! Gramma G! (G for General and as per my G) as I fondly called her was a true definition of Abraham(pun intended). She took care of each and everyone of us at some point in our lives. Pike wouldn’t be pike without u. I would forever be grateful for the long unending morning prayers when I enter your room , memories, the lessons, opportunity to tap into your stream of wisdom, the sarcasm, the insults”alaya gbeske, idi wereke,lo pe abimo ma jeun wa, e bar a yin da soun..bi a tie romo ri, a romo leyin adiye” (please insert Yoruba ami/mark) to mention a few… I am more than happy and honored to have spent your last days on earth right by your side. I will forever miss you. Love you Gramma G!! Osas Imafidon
